INDIGENOUS

Sun pelts

serpentine brush strokes

in my desert garden –

Persian poem

stylizing the dust dirt.

But I had read

indigenous authors slither

only small lines,

no bite.

This one –

five feet long?

Is she

protective?

Is he

territorial?

Statue

woman

amid

sage

and

thistles.
